Phreatic Breccia

Quartz and plagioclase porphyroclasts are immersed within a quartz-rich matrix. Thin section of the phreatic breccia unit found west of the Broadview Mine.

Phreatic Breccia

There are a number of occurrences of late-stage hydrothermal breccia zones around Thor that were recently highlighted by geological mapping. These zones are located in close proximity to known epithermal mineralization, but contain only minor amounts of silver, gold and base metals.

These types of breccia zones are common around porphyry deposits, and are generally either pre/post mineral in nature. These breccia zones may offer considerable insight into the origin and nature of the deeper intrusive target that underlies the Thor epithermal deposit.
